Liz del Pilar studied acting in Teatro Popular de Bogota and was a member of the theater research group of Corporacion Colombiana de Teatro at Teatro La Candelaria in Bogota. She studied scenic direction at Gran Teatro de La Habana Garcia Lorca with Carlos Celdran, as well as corporal expression and scenic space at Instituto Superior de Arte with Felix Antequera in Havana, Cuba. She was also a dancer in the contemporary dance company Mutanza at Universidad Pedagogica de Colombia.
She participated in painting workshops at the Fine Arts College of Universidad Nacional de Colombia; later she was an apprentice with the masters Duvan Lopez and Blanca Moreno. As mentors, they contributed to enrich and guide her artistic spirit. She studied at the Glassell School of Art in Houston, where she received the Ary Stillman Scholarship for painting.
An accomplished painter, she participated in art exhibits in several venues, among them, the Glencoe Museum in Radford, VA, the Jefferson Center in Roanoke, VA, Galeria Regina in Houston, Texas, and the Galerie Etienne de Causans in Paris. She is a founding member of Latinamerican Women Artists of Houston (LAWAH).
